The price

Residents pay $2 a month or less per vehicle for a Laneo plate permit. The property sets the exact price, up to that $2 maximum. All prices exclude sales tax, which is added at checkout.

Billing starts at move-in or lease renewal, whichever comes first.

Monthly or yearly

Residents can pay each month, or pay for the year and get two months free when 12 or more months remain on their lease. At the $2 maximum, the two look like this:

Monthly and yearly resident permit at the $2 maximum
LineMonthlyYearly
Vehicle permit$2.00$24.00
Two months free–−$4.00
Card processing fee$0.00$0.00

Total before tax$2.00$20.00

Why card fees stay at zero

On a $2 charge, a card processing fee would be a noticeable share of the price. Stripe’s standard US rate for domestic cards is 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction, which comes to about $0.36 on $2.00, nearly 18% of the price. Rather than pass it on, Laneo covers card processing fees on resident payments. The receipt shows the card fee line at $0.00, so residents can see exactly what they paid for.

Residents pay through Stripe. Laneo never sees or stores full card numbers; it keeps the last four digits and the payment status.

What’s included at no extra charge

  • Plate swaps. New car or a rental? Residents replace the plate in the app and the new permit starts when they save, with no charge. The property may limit how many swaps a resident makes each month.
  • Move-out refunds. Residents set their move-out date, their permits end that day, and they get a prorated refund for unused time, back to the card they paid with. On a $2.00 monthly permit, 13 unused days of 30 come to an example refund of $0.87 before sales tax.
  • Support in English and Spanish for app, payment and plate questions.

If a payment doesn’t go through

If a card is declined, the resident gets an email asking them to update their card, and Laneo tries again when they do. The property decides what happens to permits that aren’t paid, so it’s worth updating the card soon.

Why residents pay, not the property

With Laneo, the property pays no subscription. Laneo is paid by resident permit fees and a share of the guest revenue the property collects. The property pays a one-time setup, and both the setup and the guest revenue share are set out in its proposal.

Keeping the resident price at $2 a month or less, with no card fees, is what makes that model fair to residents. A property that prefers residents not to pay can ask about the per-unit option paid by the property instead.
