What close matches mean

Updated 2 min read

In short: the plate you entered isn’t registered, but a registered plate looks almost the same, such as I and 1 or O and 0. Check the plate again before any action.

Example

“Close match: TST-1234 has a resident permit. Check the plate before any action.” One character is different.

Why it happens

Plates are easy to misread in a dark garage, and residents sometimes mistype their own. A close match might be a misread or a typo. I or 1? O or 0? Laneo checks for you.

What to do

  1. Check the plate again Compare it with the car, character by character.
  2. Look it up again If you misread it, the corrected plate shows its real result.
  3. Follow your agreement If it still doesn’t match, follow your agreement with the property and log what you see.

Residents fix a typo in their own plate with a free plate swap in the app. Close-match warnings show on patrol accounts; tow accounts see only whether a plate is valid.
